Got a question about a specific word in the play? Check out this list. Because it's a new play, and pages are always changing, I've decided to list this glossary in alphabetical order. If you can't find a word you're looking for, it may be somewhere else on the site. The specific pieces of the 6-Series are listed under the Bike Anatomy page. Let me know if you have questions.

 

15 mm Wrench- Your classic small wrench

Becky Thatcher- The bike name is in reference to the character in Tom Sawyer. Check out a character description here

​

Bodega- Of hispanic descent, a neighborhood grocery store.

​

Bontrager Race X- A wheel set you can buy for you bike (for about a grand)

​

Bottom Bracket- The bottom bracket on a bicycle connects the crankset (chainset) to the bicycle and allows the crankset to rotate freely. Check out the "Anatomy of a Bicycle" in the Bikes 101 section to see where it fits in on a bike!

​

Bowl- A pipe you can smoke weed out of. Made of all shapes and sizes. Check out some here. 

​

Bronx- The northernmost of the 5 New York City Burroughs, the Bronx contains a multitude of diverse neighborhoods, parks, and schools. Though the Bronx is known by many for it’s poverty and crime rates, the Bronx is a borough full of life, culture, and many tourist attractions. Campy- Referring to the bike brand Campagnolo

​

Canal- Canal Street. NYC stop known for it’s street vendors, and cheap counterfeit purses, wallets, etc. You can find this on the map

 

Crank Puller- Used to remove crank arms from bottom brackets. Check one out here.

Claremont Park- Claremont Park, a NYC sponsored park in the Bronx is a neighborhood park with sports fields and a swimming complex. The neighborhood surrounding houses mostly black and hispanic families. The medium household income was reported in 2013 to be $20,901, over 30,000 less than the New York Average

 

Clipless Pedals- Many bikers use clips to keep their feet on their pedals at all times/ Clipless Pedals are a special kind of pedal which require both special pedals and special shoes that hook into the pedals. The shoes hook into the pedals so there is no need for a clip. 

 

Dixon’s Bike Shop- A real bike shop in Park Slope.

Dolan- A European Bike brand. 

​

Downtube Shifters- Quite simply, these are shifters placed on the down tube, rather than the handlebars. 

​

Dumbo- A super expensive neighborhood in Brooklyn. Lots of tech companies have offices residing in the neighborhood. Here's an article about the neighborhood. 

​

Fixies- A fixed gear bike, the simplest bike on the market. These bikes are unique because their design eliminates the need for they derailleurs, shifters, double- or triple-chainring cranksets, or, in some circumstances, even brakes. They're also relatively cheaper compared to many of the other bikes mentioned. For more information, check out this webpage.

Four Loko- An alcoholic energy drink. They were illegal for a bit. Do not recommend. (But also low key recommend).

​

Greenwhich- Neighborhood in NYC, you gotta have a little money to live there. Median household income is $117,801 with a median rent upwards of 1800 a month

​

Hoboken- A city in New Jersey, right across the river. About a 30 minute bike ride from Chelsae. 

​

Hyundai- A South Korean car manufacturing company. One of the top 5 manufactures world wide. 

​

Indoor Cycling Trainer- A device  you can hook up your bike to for bike fits, or to train in the winter. They come in many different shapes and sizes.

​

John Lennon / Mr. Peabody Glasses- These

​

MHR- A fictional corporate bike shop. Comparable to Breakaway Bikes or Cadence Cycling , both found in Philadelphia. Cleaner, more structured, and more soul-sucking than a shop like Bert's. 

​

Montauk- A small beach town on the southern tip of Long Island. With six state parks, and a great fishing reputations, Montauk is one of the most popular tourist beach destinations in New York

​

Motobecane- A bike brand.

​

Mystic- A Trek brand bike made for children. 

​

Park Slope- Considered one of the best neighborhoods in Brooklyn

​

Pedal Wrench- Looks like this.

​

Pony Bar- A popular beer house in midtown. They have two locations: One in Hell's Kitchen and one on the Upper East Side. 

​

Prospect Park- With 585 acres, Prospect Park is the largest park in Brooklyn. The bicycle loop around the park is 3.35 miles, and sports many races throughout the year. For more on the park check out this website (which should open to the bicycle page).

​

Pyrenees 2003- During Stage 15 of the 2003 Tour De France, Lance Armstrong crashed his bike, got up, and won the stage. His win secured his win of the Tour, though the honor was taken from him after doping charges. See a video of the stage here.

​

Raleigh- A bicycle company. The company is over 100 years old!

​

Roadies- A name for a road cyclist. Here’s a fun article that explains the different cycling tribes one can be a part of. 

​

Shifters- A bicycle gear shift.

​

Shiner- A bruise. 

​

Square Taper Crank- A crank like this.

​

Tandem- A Tandem bicycle is a bicycle made for two people. Both cyclists pedal, while the one in front steers. 

​

Tarmac- A very expensive bike brand. 

​

Temple- Temple University, one of Philadelphia's biggest and most well known public universities. 

​

Thule- A Swedish company that specializes in the transportation of bikes, ski equipment, and any other vehicles and tools used by those living an active lifestyle. Check out their website for product information.

Tour De France- The Tour De France is an annual 21-day cycling competition mainly held in France with some stages traveling into surrounding countries. The competition is over 100 years old and is considered the most prestigious cycling competition in the world. For more on the specific Tour mentioned, click here. Tyra Banks Movie - He’s referring to the 2000 movie “Coyote Ugly.” The IMDB page can be found here. Cast movie night anyone?

Warby Parker- Expensive glasses company. Check out their website here

​

Waspy- Rich, white, preppy. Originates from the acronym, WASP, which means White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. 

​

Weekend Warrior- A person who participates in a usually physically strenuous activity only on weekends or part-time. (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/weekend%20warrior)

​

Willi B- The Williamsburg Bridge (which can be found on the map).

​

Writing’s on the Wall- An expression meaning something is ending soon / something bad will happen soon. Based on a story in the Bible about Daniel, who reads the handwriting on the wall that predicts the end of the kingdom of Babylon. (http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/the+writing+on+the+wall)

Yellow Leaf- A fictional publishing house. 

​

Zipps- A bike brand.
